Maersk Cyberattack – what we know
The Maersk Group, the world’s largest steamship line carrier, was hit by a massive cyberattack on 6/27/17.

The Maersk Group, the world’s largest steamship line carrier, was hit by a massive cyberattack on 6/27/17. Maersk IT systems were shut down across multiple business units by the attack. This impacted Maersk’s ability to accept new bookings, and prevented them from sending and receiving information and communicating with their customers.  APM Terminals, a subsidiary of Maersk, was also affected. Most APM USA terminals were closed 6/28 as a precautionary measure in light of the Maersk Cyberattack, but with the exception of Port Elizabeth NJ, which will be closed until 6/30, have since reopened. Maersk vessels calling at other terminals continued to be worked normally. The shipping industry has pushed hard in recent years to digitize their operations, but at the same time this has left them vulnerable to cyberattacks.

Please note, this event has not affected Sumisho Global Logistics in any way, and we are ready to help share information and assist any of our customers who are concerned their freight may be affected by this attack.
